British banks are banning piggy banks because they may offend some Muslims.

Halifax and NatWest banks have led the move to scrap the time-honoured symbol of saving from being given to children or used in their advertising, the Daily Express/Daily Star group reports here.

Muslims do not eat pork, as Islamic culture deems the pig to be an impure animal.

Salim Mulla, secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, backed the bank move.

"This is a sensitive issue and I think the banks are simply being courteous to their customers," he said.

So, when are Muslims going to be sensitive towards us?

Remember, you can bring a Koran into Britain but you can't take a Bible into Saudi Arabia.

I feel that the issue of political correctness is going a bit too far and could offend some christians that live in our society. I also feel that it is up to the individuals themselves if they would like a piggy bank or not. I can see the reasons why people could be offended but they should remember that there are other religions and they could believe in the things that they don't.

This country is getting ridiculous now.
I wonder if ANY Muslim have said ''hey those piggy bank things offend me''FFS :evil: There's some bunch of idiots getting paid thousands of pounds to think up these things that may offend other races/religion, when I bet they don't offend anyone.

I don't eat liver I think it's disgusting so let's ban pate shall we? :roll:

Why not ban rubber ducks, piggy banks, teddy bears or any other replicated animal thing too while we're at it incase vegetarians get offended.

Soon as I save up enough money I'm out of this stupid country.

I find it hard to believe that people get paid for making such wierd decisions. They must be totally out of touch with reality. I've never been promiscuous (quite the reverse) but I'm 35 so I have a 'dating history' and for some reason 3 of my exes were Muslims. I just can't imagine how shocked they would be at such a strange decision! Insulting to Muslims and offensive to non-Muslims imo... :roll:

Things like this IMO breed racism, while as Molly says most Muslims would not be offended by a piggybank, reporting stories like this will encourage people to believe these establishments / the government favours them thus creating contempt for them!

This country gets worse by the day
