Police are questioning three men over the alleged kidnap and rape of a three-year-old girl.The toddler was taken from her home in the Rumney area of Cardiff on Monday evening.The car in which she was travelling crashed in Wiltshire following a police pursuit on Tuesday.

The child was airlifted to hospital and is still being treated for "significant" injuries.

Three men - aged 26, 34 and 47 - are being questioned in South Wales.

The 26-year-old man was arrested in the Swindon area

after his vehicle was followed by police.

The other two men were arrested in Wales.

Superintendent Josh Jones, Deputy Divisional Commander for Cardiff, said: "This is an extremely rare event which makes it all the more shocking.

"Rumney is a close-knit community and we ask the residents to work closely with us in providing any information that they can.

"We will continue to provide a very visible police presence in the area."

Detectives are currently carrying out house to house enquiries in the Rumney area.

They are asking anyone with any information to contact them.

The phrase 'throw away the key' springs to mind, if indeed they are the guilty people, as it does to all such cases.

It is just appaling. What must be going through their heads as they commit such a terrible crime

THE mother of a three-year-old kidnap and rape victim told last night of the moment she realised her girl had been snatched.

She spoke as police, who found the child sobbing and asking for her dummy in a crashed car, condemned the "horrendous" crime.

The mum, 34, said: "She was on her way to bed when suddenly I noticed she wasn't there.

"I searched everywhere then realised she had been taken."

She was comforting her fair-haired daughter in hospital as detectives got extra time to question three men under arrest.

During a party at the family's home in Cardiff, a car drew up and a man lured the girl inside.

Neighbours heard screeching tyres as a car sped off. It was the start of a three-hour ordeal.

Police were called and a 34-year-old man was arrested at a house in the area before the search switched to the car.

Officers in Wiltshire spotted an L-registered Escort and pursued it for 14 miles before it crashed at 1am on Tuesday morning.

The 26-year-old driver was arrested and a third man, aged 47, was detained in south Wales.

Doctors found the child, who had minor crash injuries, had been raped and sexually abused.

Her mum said yesterday: "I am so relieved to get her back. She's been though hell. I am numb. I'm just in shock."

Chief Superintendent Josh Jones said it was one of the most "horrendous" crimes south Wales police had ever dealt with.

They will get 7 years, and be out in 3 to do it again.

It just beggars belief

I know somebody who got 10 years for armed robbery (to be fair he deserved it, it was a particularly nasty attack) but my point is that he got 10 years and was out in 7.

Even if they do get a lengthy sentence you can bet that cc is right and they won't serve all of it...

I would like to see all child-rapists get a mandatory life-sentence but unfortunately it isn't practical as it would remove the incentive to leave the victim alive if they knew they would get life anyway and be more likely to be identifided (and therefore jailed).

Lets just hope that the poor child isn't yet mature enough to remember this ordeal in too much detail in later years...
