Post subject:  Hit-and-run drivers

A man who ran over a women then drove off without even stopping got sentanced to 12 weeks in prison today.

Our law is an ass, 12 weeks for killing someone. The road was a straight one i saw it on the news, there can be no excuse for hitting her and for driving away.

Its time we start making motorists realises if their actions cause death and carnage they must pay for it and those that run away should be doubly punished as the admitance of gujilt is in the running.

I was nearly mown down on a pavement by a driver, who just laughed at me when I protested, "I didnt hit you did I" only becuase o dived out of the way. the concept that he was driving at 30mph on a pavement didint seem to register with him. I wonder if the four flat tyres he returned to did, :D

5 years ago a driver skidded into our parked car (it had started to snow and conditions were treacherous - but he was going far too fast). I got out of the car with my children, - and he promptly sped away. Our car was badly damaged, and I got a back injury, which took about 2 years to fully heal.

Thankfully my 9 year old daughter had taken note of his car reg - and we eventually tracked him down. He'd been driving a company car - he was a 'respectable business-man' - and his firm's insurance company eventually forked out the cost of repairing our car, and physiotherapy bills for me.

Clever girl, Gerbilmommy, noting that number, after such a big shock.

Well done to her, glad 1 got nailed!!

I think 12 weeks is about the most ridiculous sentence I have ever heard. Given the circumstances, I think there's a good case for saying it was murder and he should never walk free.

Saw an accident a few years ago.
The traffic was queued ,for some distance ,waiting to join a main road in Northampton. The wife of the chap standing next to me at the time was crossing further up the road. The queued traffic let her through but an idiot had decided to go down the wrong side of the road to get around the long queue. Unfortunately his appearance was at the exact second she stood away from the queued traffic. She hadn't looked up the road as there shouldn't have been any traffic as the correct lane was stationary.
We heard thud and saw her drop to the road in front of the idiots car.
Although she escaped and major physical injuries it was the cause of a mis-carriage. The other children she had with her including the one in the carrier she was wearing escaped injury.
What I can't tell you is what happened to the driver. I don't recall it being talked about at the time but it was something like 8 years ago.

I ,we me and my mate ,was first on scene of a 3 car RTA coming out of Luton years ago. Going by the debris which included engine parts at least one car must have been travelling quite fast. As you can imagine the cars were a mess with occupants trapped. My mate spent some time trying to calm one of the trapped drivers while the emergency services arrived. We left the scene just before the road was closed.

The detail children can recalled from events where the adults either can't or were in auto mode doing other things is quite remarkable at time but they are often over looked when information is sort.

I've only been personally involved in one RTA which was single vehicle when things went very wrong exiting a bend when a front tire deflated causing a spin and the car to roll. But nothing serious I walked away with very minor manly small cuts off the windscreen glass on my fingers.
