I do hope there is nothing sinister behind his death. The western world cannot afford to have further blood on its hands, no matter what sort of scumbag MIlosevic is/was. And this will have massive implications in the Saddam trial too. As an aside. does this mean there will be a minute's silence at the Villa game at the weekend? |

| Post subject: | Milosevic died of heart attack - UN tribunal |
Reuters Sun Mar 12, 2006 10:25 PM GMT By Nicola Leske THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Slobodan Milosevic died of a heart attack, the U.N. war crimes tribunal said on Sunday but added that toxicological tests still had to be completed amid reports he took drugs which worsened his health. Dutch scientists said the 64-year-old former Yugoslavia president had died of a "myocardial infarction" which could be explained by two heart conditions, the tribunal said in a statement. Serbian pathologists had also observed the autopsy. "The prosecution service of The Hague has informed the Registrar that a toxicological examination will still be carried out," the statement said. "The tribunal has been informed that the final report will be issued as soon as possible." Milosevic's remains will be released to his family on Monday, the tribunal added. Milosevic, who suffered from a heart condition and high blood pressure, was found dead in his cell on Saturday as his marathon trial for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Balkans in the 1990s neared a verdict. |

Body To Be Released The son of ex-Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic has been granted a visa to collect his father's body from the UN war crimes tribunal at the Hague. The family wants him to be buried in Belgrade but it is not clear if the Serbian authorities have agreed to Marko Milosevic's plan. Technically, Milosevic's widow, Mira Markovic, faces charges if she returns to Belgrade from exile in Russia. But the state prosecutor's office has indicated she will not charged. The family may ask for a temporary burial in Moscow if the Serbia failed to guarantee the safety of Markovic, who fled corruption claims in 2003. The initial post mortem results suggested he died of heart failure. But a toxicologist said he had traces of an unprescribed drug in his blood. Milosevic, who had been on trial for war crimes including genocide, claimed before his death that he was being poisoned. The 64-year-old died in his cell at a UN detention centre in The Hague on Saturday. It has been claims that blood taken before his death showed traces of a drug that cancelled out the effect of medicines for high blood pressure. Skynews |

Russia confirms Milosevic letter Source: ITN Russia has confirmed they received a letter from former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in which he complained about receiving inappropriate treatment. "In this handwritten letter Slobodan Milosevic talks about inadequate treatment by doctors of the International Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia and reiterates his request for support from Russia in getting permission to undergo treatment in a Moscow clinic," a Russian Foreign ministry statement said. Meanwhile, tests on Milosevic's blood taken before he was found dead on Saturday showed traces of a medicine that negated the effect of high blood pressure drugs, a Dutch toxicologist said. Groningen University toxicologist Donald Uges said tests he conducted two weeks ago on Milosevic's blood showed traces of rifampicin - a drug against leprosy and tuberculosis - that would have made other medicines ineffective. The 64-year-old, who suffered from a heart condition and high blood pressure, was found dead in his cell on Saturday only months before a verdict was due in his trial on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the 1990s. A post-mortem examination found that Milosevic died from heart failure. According to the pathologist, Milosevic's cause of death was a miocardial infarction," or heart attack, the tribunal said in a statement. Milosevic's lawyer has said the former president's funeral will be held in Belgrade and his son Marko will come to The Hague on Monday or Tuesday to pick up his body. Controversy has surrounded Milosevic's death since Saturday, with his lawyer, Zdenko Tomanovic, claiming the former Serb leader had told him the day before that he thought he was being poisoned. He said: "Yesterday I informed the Russian embassy on behalf of Mr Milosevic about his claims that his health was being wilfully destroyed, and that this should be (investigated) by the Russians." Milosevic's family said prosecutors and judges were to blame for his death because they refused to allow him to visit Russia for specialist treatment. Ch4 |

FURY OVER MILOSEVIC BURIAL BID LATE Serb tyrant Slobodan Milosevic has sparked a storm in his homeland over plans to give him a state funeral. His Socialist party vowed to bring down the government unless he is buried in Belgrade Cemetery's Alley of Heroes. Party official Branko Ruzic insisted: "We expect state authorities to respect the dignity of this tragic moment." But PM Vojislav Kostunica said the move would be "absolutely inappropriate". He said Serbia "said all it had to say about Milosevic" when it ousted him in a 2000 uprising. Meanwhile, a Dutch expert claimed Milosevic deliberately took a drug to negate his blood pressure pills in a bid to be moved to Moscow. Donald Uges said the dictator's aides wanted to claim he was not receiving proper care. Milosevic, 64, was found dead on Saturday in a cell in the Hague. Russia has said it does not trust early postmortem results showing he suffered a heart attack. Mirror |
