A full plane has been evacuated after passengers joked about having a "bomb on board", an airline has said.
Cabin crew said they had heard a group, believed to be three men, laughing about explosives as they boarded BMI's Edinburgh to Heathrow 1620 BST service.
Police were called and about 160 people were asked to leave flight BD61 while the suspects were questioned.
It was cleared for take off at 1900 BST. A search had found no evidence of suspicious devices, the airline said.
A BMI spokesman said its staff had followed "normal procedure".
"An incident like this is relatively rare.
"When it does happen, even if it is a joke, it is taken extremely seriously."
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police, which has about six officers at Edinburgh Airport, said:
"Three people were detained and are being questioned.
"It looks like it was as a result of some sort of bad behaviour."
