Well well well...after a lot of moodiness and depression from the storm watching community, everyone is now jumping up and down with excitement. There is now the first likely big storm of the season on its way. Ernesto is just TS at the moment, nothing fancy. *As for those loony toon IDIOTS rebuilding in the New Orleans area, despite the fact that it was the home for many good people, the place sinks further every year and I've zero sympathy for them. Even the major of 'chocolate city' as he likes to think of it, Nagin, he has failed his people. If he had any sense he'd have decided that the NO bowl of death is not entirely the wisest of places to reside. Prediction: Ernesto is gonna be real nasty, Cat'4/5 at one stage, and probably slamming into the USA gulf coast by sometime Tue-Thurs. **there will be massive online TV coverage of Ernesto, and I'll post links nearest the time. Thanks Cal, I have read a couple of reports on it and there is a lot of potential in the 'Major Damage' stakes. This headline seems to have caused a few cases of near panic: Levees Maybe Not Up to Job Saturday August 26, 2006 8:46 PM NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Despite aggressive efforts to repair the New Orleans levee system following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, it isn't clear yet whether it could withstand a sizable hurricane this year, the head of the Army Corps of Engineers conceded Saturday. The earlier NHC forecasts were totally wrong, far from hitting Texas, Ernesto ended up crossing cuba and southern Florida. Nothing particularly strong. Storms always hard to predict. --- Calrissian: awaiting Hurricane Kirk |
