| Post subject: | Blair asks Lebanon to send peacekeepers into Labour Party |
11 Sep 2006 Tony Blair has asked Lebanon for a team of peacekeepers to calm tensions between warring Labour Party factions, DeadBrain has learned. In a private conversation with the Lebanese prime minister - listened to only by Israel, the CIA, Hezbollah, the National Union of Embroiderers and our correspondent standing behind the pot plant – Mr Blair talked candidly of the fighting in his party. "It's getting worse and more and more people are being caught up in it," he said. "If it goes on any longer I'm worried someone's going to get killed. With the look on Gordon Brown's face the other day it could be me!" In return for his attempts at encouraging peace between Israel and Lebanon over the summer, when he pressed for an immediate end to the bombing of civilians by telling Israel to "carry on, stop whenever you're ready", Mr Blair said that it was "only fair" that the Lebanese people "help out". "We did a lot for you guys, but we could really use your help now," he added. "That's what friends are for." Without waiting for an answer, Mr Blair went on to explain the rules of engagement. "I've got no problem with your guys knocking a few heads together, it would do us good," he said. "In fact, I'd be particularly grateful if you could get heavy with Brown, if you see what I mean." A spokesman for the Lebanese government said it was "considering Prime Minister Blair's request carefully". Deadbrain |
