7 October 2006 ..And what the way you sleep says about your relationship THE secret to good relationships is all down to how we sleep, according to a survey. The study identifies the most popular sleeping positions for British couples and what these say about the state of their relationships. Psychologist Corrine Sweet teamed up with hotel giants Travelodge for the study. It found British couples' favourite position is the "Liberty" - back to back, but not touching - at 27 per cent. Relationship psychologist Sweet said: "How a couple sleep together can say a lot about their relationship. "Sleeping positions tend to be habits established in childhood, and tend to reflect our individual personalities. "When we form love relationships, we have to work out how to sleep comfortably with another person" To dispel the myth that you should never go to bed on an argument, the study identified that one in 20 couples wake up in the night to start rowing - but 40 per cent wake up to have sex. Snoring was named the main culprit for sleeping apart. And 54 per cent of adults can tell if their partner is cheating on them by how they sleep, according to the report. Women, at 60 per cent, are more vigilant and can detect if their other half is playing away by his bedroom antics. But more than three per cent of men admitted to calling their wife or girlfriend the wrong name in bed. DailyRecord |
