Be lard of the dance on NHS Quote: HEALTH bosses are hoping overweight people will lose excess lard by learning to dance on the NHS.
Under a new Government fitness drive, TAXPAYERS will fork out for Britons to go on a range of free exercise regimes. Activities on offer will include abseiling, kite flying, trampolining, boxing and tai chi. Gardening, walking, swimming and cycling will also be used to boost healthy lifestyles. But dance is expected to become a major part of the campaign now its popularity has been revived by TV’s Strictly Come Dancing. Up to nine million people a week watch the hit BBC1 Saturday show, now down to its last four contestants — ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton, cricketer Mark Ramprakash, rugby’s Matt Dawson and ex-EastEnders actress Louisa Lytton. Public Health Minister Caroline Flint will launch the scheme nationwide tomorrow, following the success of ten pilot projects costing £2.6million since 2004. But shadow health minister Tim Loughton said: “We have to look at imaginative solutions to get people active. Programmes like Strictly Come Dancing have seized people’s imagination and it’s a very good way of keeping fit. It could be a very good way of keeping people healthy and out of hospitals.” More than 14million Britons will be dangerously overweight by 2010. Inactivity costs £8.2billion a year in days off sick and NHS bills. And experts believe early intervention can cut illnesses like diabetes, stroke and heart disease — which would make the classes cost-effective. It is estimated that hundreds of people have already benefited from free dance classes. Sun |

What a disgusting bunch of lazy fat ass people the UK populace are. Ohh, and now the healthy people are supposed to also start paying for dance lessons for the fat lumps to help them get slim ? -- It is hilarious to hear them say that because so many millions watch the (taxpayer financed) dance show is a good thing. The reverse is true of course. It is indicative that rather than people actually 'doing stuff', they are sat in front of a TV filling their overspilling guts with even more cake, beer, and crisps. -- There is one serious upside to so many fat lumps though. They will keel over and die before they reach pensionable age. The exchequor has already factored this into its projections, so it would NOT a good thing if so many of the voracious lumps start slimming down and not dying soon enough. Social historians will be rolling around on the floor when they read about such policies in 75-100 years. Calrissian: Just stating what is the real situation. |
