PRINCESS Diana's death crash was no more than a simple high-speed accident, a Scotland Yard inquiry will say this week.

After interviewing 400 witnesses and examining 20,000 official documents former Met police chief Lord Stevens is expected to report there was NO murder, NO cover-up and NO conspiracy.

He will disclose that US spies, acting without British approval, bugged Diana's phone calls at the Ritz Hotel, Paris, on the night she died.

But he is expected to report that 39 classified documents relating to Diana's final calls reveal nothing sinister that might explain the tragedy.

Lord Stevens is also expected to disclose that Henri Paul, Diana's driver on the night she died, was in the pay of the French secret services.

But, again, there is no link to the tragedy. Instead, Lord Stevens will say Diana and Dodi Fayed's Mercedes crashed in the Pont d'Alma tunnel in Paris merely because driver Paul, 41, was going too fast under the influence of drink and drugs.

Dodi's father Harrods boss Mohammed al-Fayed has suggested Diana, 36, was killed to stop her marrying Dodi, a Muslim.
