Well you would know all about spreading crap. And for someone so hellbent on dictating to others what is and isn't trivia, you are spending a lot of time posting on these "trivial matters".

ellie: wondering why Hippo's tongue in cheek comment can be moderated, but other people's bile remain unchecked.

You people sure seem to love those filthy hos.

Christmas is all about ho hos, right?

Suffolk can return to normal now. Lots of curb crawling, and the hos back on the street corners, with the whiners blaming drugs and the govt. lol

Dexter would'nt kill the hos though. He has standards.

You seem to love them too Cal. All this waffling on about them makes me think more and more that you use them and detest yourself for it. They aren't the ones with the problem you are.

hmm - I've thought long and hard about this one. I think society does try and help folk who find themselves in a difficult situation - ie on drugs, on the street, lonely etc etc - but with the best will in the world, it doesn't always work..but not necessarily through lack of effort or facilities not being available - more because of those with the resources are ineffectual at getting it together at the right time. (does that make sense?!)

I seem to spend every day lamenting the failure of 'society' to do its job and step in where help is needed - and even though the kids I work with have on many occasions got themselves into their own mess - I often feel that 'society' is failing them and they deserve our pity rather than our scorn...

Where were the posts saying that people loved the women? I only read ones saying how tragic their lives and deaths were. (well apart from your vitriolic posts, that is)

Calrissian - isn't ANYTHING that happens close to one's home the biggest deal for a while? No matter how bad things are elsewhere?

I'm sure that if your home was trashed and all your belongings destroyed, that would be your number one concern for a while. Not the dying millions in Africa who are more deserving of consideration.

Get a grip, man. This was close to home for us all, and was bound to be shocking for people. It doesn't mean that we are indifferent to the plight of the people in other countries.

Attorney general cautions media on Suffolk coverage

The attorney general, Lord Goldsmith, has asked the media to "exercise restraint" in reporting the Ipswich murders investigation.

In an operational note to editors issued today, the attorney general said the wide media and public interest in the Suffolk police force's investigation of the murder of five women in the Ipswich area was "wholly understandable".

However, he warned the media to avoid coverage that might impede or prejudice the police investigation, or prejudice any potential prosecutions.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering the five women and are being questioned by police.

"The wide media and public interest in this police investigation is wholly understandable. However, in view of the concerns that some coverage may impede the police investigations, the attorney general asks all parties to exercise restraint in their reporting," Lord Goldsmith said in the note.

"Editors must avoid the publication of materials which may impede or prejudice the complex and ongoing investigations by the police and avoid the risk of prejudicing potential prosecutions or prejudging their outcome," he added.

"Depending on the circumstances and information, this could include speculation or information relating to suspects' connections or other activities, or details of their background. In particular, the attorney general urges all parties to take note of the risks in publishing material that asserts or assumes, expressly or implicitly, the guilt of any individual."

The attorney general also noted that Suffolk constabulary had expressed concern that some media coverage was hindering their ongoing investigation of the murders.

Alastair McWhirter, the Suffolk chief constable, wrote to editors earlier this week advising them to exercise caution in identifying any individuals involved in its investigation into the murder of five women in Ipswich, despite nearly every major news outlet naming both men who are under arrest.

Given that this story is once again at the top of the News Thread, I'll take the opportunity to post a link to online books of condolences, opened by an Ipswich newspaper.

Strangler Suspect is a secret tranny
21/12/06

SUFFOLK strangler suspect Stephen Wright was unmasked last night as a secret cross-dresser.

He squeezed into high heels, a PVC mini-skirt and a lady’s wig as he prowled the streets for sex.

The 48-year-old also wore camouflage trousers which earned him the nickname The Soldier among Ipswich hookers who knew him well.

Wright wore miniskirts

SUSPECT Steve Wright wore short PVC skirts, high heels and a wig as he tried to pick up hookers, a former vice girl said last night.

The ex-prostitute, named Tina, used to work the streets of Norwich.

Wright ran a pub in the city’s red-light district in 1988. And Tina said he was still seen in the area once or twice a week after she went on the game there in 1996.

'Unmasked as a secret cross-dresser'.

No doubt some transvestites will suffer as a result of this latest 'revelation'.

Man charged with prostitutes’ murders

A MAN has been charged for the murder of five prostitutes in the Ipswich area, police have confirmed.

Stephen Wright, 48, had been arrested at his home in Trimley St Martin, Suffolk, earlier this week.

He is accused of the murders of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls, whose bodies had been found dumped in various locations.

The police also stated that Wright would appear before magistrates in Ipswich tomorrow.

Another man, who had been arrested earlier and who was questioned for several days, was released pending further enquiries.

WRIGHT: I DIDN'T KILL VICE GIRLS

ALLEGED Suffolk Strangler Steve Wright yesterday denied murdering five Ipswich prostitutes.

The 49-year-old pleaded not guilty to all charges at Ipswich crown court.

The forklift driver was making his third court appearance but it was the first time he had been asked to indicate his pleas.

Now his trial will start in the town next January 14.

Grey-haired Wright was calm and composed in the dock during the three hour hearing, confirming his name and answering "Not Guilty" five times in a clear and audible voice.

He is accused of murdering Tana Nicol, 19, Gemma Adams, 25, Anneli Alderton, 24, Annette Nicholls, 29, and Paula Clennell, 24, between October and December.

All were prostitutes in Ipswich. Their naked bodies were found in nearby villages before Christmas.

Wright, who lived on the edge of their red light area with his 61-year-old partner Pam Goodman, was remanded back into custody at Belmarsh Prison.
