A man set fire to the front of a house while trying to kill a spider.

The man in his 40s had been using a lighter to try and set fire to the spider which was crawling up the front of the house in Beverston Road, Paulsgrove.

But sparks reached material behind the cladding and caused a fire within the walls.

Three crews from Cosham fire station were called to the incident at 11.50pm last night.

It took firefighters two hours to completely put the fire out.

What an idiot! Firstly I have to ask why he was trying to kill a spider which was on the OUTSIDE of the house? Secondly, why was he trying to set fire to it? There are other less dramatic ways of killing it.

However, I am totally against killing spiders personally. If someone doesn't want a spider in the house, I would just take it outside, not kill it.

Never kill a house spider if you are lucky enough to have any in your home becauase they will make sure all the other teeny weeny creepy insects we do not see are not crawling all over us. :eek:

I didn't think of that Madeline!! There are a few spiders in my house, because I don't mind them. They are not doing me any harm, so I just let them be. I know that some people will probably think that I am mad though!
