The Home Office has stopped direct flights from Yemen to the UK in light of the security alert caused by a suspicious package found at a British airport.A toner cartridge with wires attached to it was discovered during a check at East Midlands Airport.
The package was bound for Chicago from Yemen, via Philadelphia, and sparked a security alert across the Atlantic.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that two US military fighter jets are escorting a commercial airliner from the Canadian border to New York City, with the plane understood to be carrying cargo from Yemen.
The officials said there is no known threat associated with the plane, but it was being escorted to John F Kennedy International Airport as a cautionary move.
