FLIRTY KATE SAYS BOSS DOESN'T HAVE X FACTOR
By John Dingwall
X FACTOR host Kate Thornton has confessed her love for Simon Cowell ... but vowed that she will NEVER date him.
Fans of the talent show, which returned to our screens on Saturday, have often wondered whether there is a spark of romance between flirty Kate and TV's Mr Nasty.
But the pair were pals for years before Cowell's company hired her for X Factor and Kate knows herbosstoowellto ratehimasaboyfriendmaterial She said: "It's not good for Simon's image for me to say nice things about him but I love him to pieces. He has been an amazing friend and turned my career around.
"But I don't find him attractive and I wouldn't recommend him as a boyfriend. I think he'd be a sod to date."
Ladies' man Cowell boasts of having bedded 100 women, including his current girlfriend, model Terri Seymour. But his many critics say he's only truly in love with himself.
And while Cowell flirts with 31-year-old Kate, she insisted: "It's not just me.
"If you watch Simon with any woman, that's the way he communicates with them.
"Simon and I have known each other for almost 12 years. We first worked together when I edited Smash Hits and he was working for BMG records.
"He used to call me and try to persuade me to put Robson and Jerome on the cover. He had to wine and dine me to try to get coverage.
"Boy, how things have changed. Now he's my boss and I know it."
All the X Factor team were celebrating yesterday after the series opener trounced the competition in the ratings.
The show pulled in 6.6million viewers, compared with just 2.4million for BBC1's fatherhood reality show He's Having A Baby.
Kate reckons the new series will go from strength to strength. She said: "The standard is so much higher this year. The talent is better than there has been on any show of its kind in the world."
Last year's winner, crooner Steve Brookstein, accused the show of "killing music" after he was dumped by Cowell's record label.
But wannabes are still falling over themselves to fill Steve's shoes as champion. This year's early failures have included a dairy farmer in drag and a determined duo who had to be chucked out of the audition by security after refusing to leave.
Kate said: "One guy rescheduled his mum's funeral to be at the audition. And he still didn't get through
