Lemar leads the way at this year’s Mobo Awards with five nominations.
The former Fame Academy star is up against Joss Stone for the title of UK act of the year.
His other nominations are best album for Time To Grow, best single for If There’s Any Justice, best video and best R&B.
Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg are each up for two awards.
US singer-songwriter John Legend has three nominations for best album, best R&B and best video.
There are also nominations for rapper Kano, Sean Paul, Jamiroquai, Missy Elliott, Estelle and Damian Marley, son of Bob Marley.
The nominations were announced tonight at a launch party hosted by T4 presenter June Sarpong.
The awards, now in their 10th year, take place on September 22 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
A new award for best African act has been introduced with the voting taking place in Africa itself.
Nominees include Youssou N’Dour and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
There is also a nomination in the best jazz category for Madeleine Peyroux.
The singer hit the headlines last week when she allegedly went missing in the middle of a promotional tour for her latest album Careless Love.
Last year the Mobos were dogged by protests about nominations for the artists Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel, known for their homophobic lyrics.
Organisers withdrew their nominations after an outcry from gay rights campaigners.
This year there will be a special Mobo tribute to Luther Vandross, who died in July.
