Dad of last year's X Factor hopeful tipped for success this year

Last year teenager Mali McCalla flew to Barbados with the six others in the group to compete for a place in the live finals. But dad Noel - front man for Manfred Mann's Earth Band - had a serious heart attack while Mali was on his way to the airport.

Mali didn't make it into the final 12 and decided not to enter this year. But now Noel, 52, has launched his own bid for success and is being touted as one of the key acts to watch.

X FACTOR hopeful Daniel Williams fears fellow Welsh teen Lloyd Daniels stands in the way of him winning the competition.

The 19-year-old said he was riddled with nerves ahead of his audition in Cardiff where he got unanimous approval from the judging panel.

But he thinks 16-year-old Lloyd Daniels could prevent him from picking up this year's X Factor crown.

Lloyd, also managed to get through to boot camp despite initially faltering in his audition.

"Lloyd is big competition to me, he's very good, 16, Welsh, good looking," Daniel said.

The ruby-loving lad said he was terrified when he got up on stage.

"I nearly fainted I was so sick, I was white as a sheet," he said.

He added: "Everybody goes on about Simon being scary, but I was scared of them all. They're A-list celebrities."

Lloyd admitted the introduction of a live audience at this year's auditions had added a different dimension to the competition.

"I think it definitely adds to it, because they're looking for a pop star and if you can't handle an audience then you can't be one.

"It spurs you on. If I was in a room, I guess I could have charmed Cheryl and Dannii a bit."

Oh no... Not ANOTHER Cheryl vs Dannii battle

--------------------------- Image

We thought all this silly Cheryl vs Dannii feuding business was long since over, but now the pair look set to be battling in the charts rather than on the X Factor judging panel.

Simon Cowell Wants To Move X Factor

Simon Cowell has said he hopes to persuade ITV to move The X Factor so the Saturday night clash with the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing show does not continue.

Cowell said it was "crazy" that the two popular shows were pitched against each other.

Writing in the Sun newspaper, he said it was unfair to force TV licence fee payers to choose which one to watch.

When the BBC announced its programme schedules last week, it emerged that the shows would go head-to-head for at least an hour each Saturday night.

The two shows have occasionally had up to half an hour's overlap, although during the last series Strictly usually finished before its ITV1 rival began.

ITV was said to be "disappointed" at the BBC's "aggressively competitive scheduling," although the BBC said the later time slot was down to a new series of Merlin.

X Factor producer and judge Cowell, who admitted he likes Strictly, said: "I don't think there are any other shows people are passionate about right now - and it's crazy that they're up against each other."

Cowell, a friend of Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli, said putting them on at different times would benefit both channels, in the same way that EastEnders was not screened at the same time as Coronation Street.

Cowell said he was surprised that the BBC, which does not need to attract advertising, had prompted the clash and said licence-payers wanted quality TV not a ratings war.

"I'll try to persuade ITV to move it (The X Factor) back or forward, whatever they need to do," he said. "I'm prepared to do everything to give the public what they want."
