They wowed the judges at the double auditions, beat the competition at boot camp and made it through nine weeks of live studio rounds. Now, the final three head to Wembley Arena to battle it out in the first part of the final. Sam Bailey teams up with The X Factor's very own Nicole Scherzinger to sing And I Am Telling You from the musical Dreamgirls, Nicholas McDonald performs Westlife's Flying Without Wings with Shane Filan from the Irish boyband, and Luke Friend appears on stage with Ellie Goulding, singing her hit single Anything Could Happen. At the end of the show, Dermot O'Leary announces the results of the phone-in and the least popular contestant gets the chop, with the lucky two going through to the last stage of the contest. There are also performances by rock band the Killers and Brits Critics' Choice winner Tom Odell, as well as one or two surprises throughout the show.

X Factor Final: Sam Bailey is crowned the WINNER as she reduces the entire panel to tears with final performance

Prison officer Sam Bailey has been crowned the winner of the X Factor 2013.

Singing her winner's song, Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, in a floor length black sequin dress, she reduced Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne to tears with her emotional performance and attracting over 1 million votes.

After months of hard work, Sam has earned her one million pound recording deal and a place on Beyonce's Mrs Carter tour next years.

X Factor final gets lowest audience figures for nearly a decade

Sam Bailey’s big moment was watched by an average of 9.6 million viewers, which is the lowest ratings for an X Factor final since Shayne Ward belted out his winner’s single, That’s My Goal, in 2005 which drew in 9.9 million.

The Sunday live final, which was held in Wembley stadium with over 10 thousand people in the live audience, drew in an average 37 per cent share of the ratings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm - which is a million fewer viewers than last year's series climax.

A plethora of high-profile guests including Katy Perry, One Direction, Elton John and The Killers couldn’t boost the ratings of the flailing talent competition this weekend.
