Quote: X FACTOR stars G4 are still broke despite signing a multi--million- pound record deal.
The runners-up in the reality pop show were snapped up by the giant Sony BMG label after a fierce bidding war, resulting in their debut album G4 being released this week. But despite the £2.4million contract, G4's Matt Stiff is still in debt to the student loan company to the tune of £10,000 . THE RAZZ: CAN YOU LEND US A TENOR? |

That doesn't make any sense Maybe they just haven't seen any of their earnings yet. They must have made quite a bit from the tour alone. |

Its a common misperception with record deals, usually the figure stated is the amount that will be spent marketing them, and not the figure that is to be split 4 ways between the band. Without a proper single, there can be no royalties, and touring is the most lucrative part of the industry. |

yep, like Gaz said if I band don't write they're on music LOADS of the music goes to the writers and stuff so I'm not surprised. I personally don't think they should've been allowed to re-do 'Bohemian Rhapsody', they've wrecked it a mon avis. |

X FACTOR runners-up G4 look set to hit No1 in the album charts this weekend. The operatic quartet - Jon Ansell, Matt Stiff, Michael Christie and Ben Thapa – released their self-titled debut album on Monday - and Mother’s Day purchases look certain to help it to the top of the charts. The band lost out to Steve Brookstein in last year’s talent show. Steve’s debut single, Against All Odds, shot to number one, but the jury remains out on whether he will prove a lasting success. G4’s album is the fastest selling album or single of the year so far and is currently outselling Jennifer Lopez’s Rebirth, last week’s number one, by a margin of just under 5 to 1. HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: “G4’s album seems certain to go straight in at number one, when the next Official UK Chart is announced on Sunday. “Although Steve Brookstein has also enjoyed number one success with his cover of Against All Odds, we always felt G4 would have the stronger commercial appeal over the longer term. “They might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but they’re proving popular with those on the look out for gifts for Mother’s Day. “The album should go on to sell the best part of 200,000 copies this week alone - making it one of the most successful debut releases in recent years.” SUN |

They certainly had that 'love them or loathe them' quality for a lot of people. |

Quote: X Factor contestants G4 have stormed to the top of the album charts.
The all-male vocal quartet reached number one with their medley of operatic versions of rock and pop classics. Their album has sold more than 200,000 copies and is expected to go platinum by the end of next week. The four singers, who used to be buskers in London, caught the imagination of millions of viewers last year when they appeared on ITV's the X Factor show. Since the album was released last Monday, the group - made up of Jon Ansell, Matt Stiff, Michael Christie and Ben Thapa - have made a whistlestop tour of music stores across the country. A spokesman for the group said: "The response has been incredible. "The group have visited Edinburgh, Bristol and Birmingham and have been literally overwhelmed by thousands of fans." The classically-trained singers piped rival male vocal group Il Divo to the coveted first place last night. G4 will perform on next Friday's Top Of The Pops, and their double-A side single Bohemian Rhapsody/Everybody Hurts is released on March 14. Ansell said of their chart success: "We're speechless. I don't think it has kicked-in yet. "It's ridiculous to think that a group of friends from college have fun and set up a group and randomly telephone a TV show, and now we're number one. "It's great that people have been buying the album for Mother's Day, and hopefully, on the sly, they're buying it for themselves too." He also joked about his bank balance: "It hasn't changed a lot. We're not really rich or anything yet. There's no megabucks." Ananova |
