Fame Academy's Top Student
Radio presenter Edith Bowman has won the Comic Relief Does Fame Academy contest.

The 30-year-old Scot beat EastEnder Kim Medcalf in the final.

The contest, based on the BBC's Fame Academy, had lasted more than a week.

Bowman revealed that the series had attracted 8.25 million telephone votes and raised more than £1,322,000 for Comic Relief.

Earlier in the evening, comedian Adrian Edmondson had been voted off.

The former Young Ones and Bottom star had progressed to the final night through a series of madcap performances.

Yay I'm glad she won
Thought she sang more like a rock singer and Kim was more like West End musical.
Think Kim was great, most probably the better singer but Edith's style was my preference.

YEAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Am so chuffed Edith won, I agree with HD, Edith was much more to my taste even though I think that Kim worked really hard and her voice was good too

Edith may have won but Kim was consistently the better singer,IMO. Personality wise, I prefered Debra out of the female celebs.

Kim was robbed!
She was the only student to never be in the bottom 3 and she had the most votes last night than any of th eother students despite the fact it wasnt her best performance! The only reason edith won is coz of all the support she got off radio one yesterday afternow.

Edith would not have lasted as long as she did imo, if she had not had the support she had from Radio One. It is done and dusted now so no sour grapes on my part.........even tho I think Kim was robbed.

I agree with Geena, Kim was consistently the better singer. Also, as far as I remember, Kim was never in the last three, whereas Edith was, therefore it would seem that the audience preferred Kim all the way through and Kim was obviously ahead before last night as well, as she was the one to be saved by the viewers.

The only reason that Edith won, was because Radio One spent all day yesterday telling people to vote for her and there were several other campaigns going on during the day telling people to vote for Edith as well, therefore people were voting throughout the day for Edith, but by the time the show was on in the evening, people could only vote by text and not everyone can do that, so Kim may have lost some votes that she otherwise may have had, as her supporters may have left it to the evening to vote by phone and then found they were unable to.

It obviously doesn't matter who won though, because the money was for charity and through Radio One's campaign for Edith, they probably raised more than they otherwise would have done.

Well whatever.. it depends on what style of singing you personally like in the end. As I said, I thought Kim was also a good singer but I preferred Edith's style.. so I am glad she won.

But the main point is that it was a a good cause and all the debate over who should win meant that more money was raised so they achieved what they set out to!

I thought that as a Fame Academy, it was a really good mix of people taking part and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it for the last however many nights.
