REALITY CHECK
DJ Edith turns back on 'intrusive' television shows
RADIO 1 DJ Edith Bowman has vowed never to have anything to do with reality TV again . . . while taking a cheeky pop at music mogul Simon Cowell.
The bubbly presenter said the winners at the Scottish Style Awards all had the X factor.
But she hastily added: "I hate to quote from Simon Cowell.
"Thankfully he's not here with his rather large pants."
The 30-year-old Scot, who was hosting the awards at Glasgow's Tramway, admitted she not only has a problem with Simon, but dislikes reality shows in general.
"I know I took part in Celebrity Fame Academy, but I'd never do any others," she said. "That was the most subtle one. It's more about the classes and how you deal with them.
"I did it purely to help Comic Relief and I thought that being on radio I could generate a bit of buzz about it. I'm not planning on doing any more singing.
"I'd rather have needles stuck in my eyes than take part in Strictly Come Dancing. These shows are really quite intrusive.
"I give three hours of myself to listeners everyday and it's not like I'm hiding anything. I just have no wish to do any more."
Instead Edith is focusing on her radio career and her new project - as landlady of the Station Buffet bar in the Fife village of Elie.
"My brother and I are licensees and he's going to run it," she said.
"I'm getting weekly phone calls from him about it, and I think we're opening up mid-November.
"He's got some great ideas. There's this real waste of space outside and he's going to put up heaters and vines, and make it a little patio area. With the smoking ban coming in, it will be great."
While Edith is more likely to be pulling pints than DJ-ing in her new pub, she revealed she will be broadcasting from her home town of Anstruther in the coming months. She and side-kick Colin Murray will be heading north to present their afternoon show.
"We're doing a thing with Radio 1 called DJs Go Home,"she said."First we'll go to Belfast for Colin, then we'll do a show from my old school, Waid Academy in Anstruther."
Edith, who turned up late for the Scottish Style Awards after her flight was delayed, wore a dress by Fashion Designer Of The Year Jonathan Saunders.
She said: "I wanted to wear a Scottish designer so I asked my friends at Clash magazine to recommend someone. They told me to go to Jonathan Saunders, but I didn't even know he'd been nominated.
"He's one of these Scottish talents that's going to be massive."
Although Edith agreed with the judges in that category, she was surprised at some results. "I thought KT Tunstall or Franz might have got the bandone," she said.
Texas, also nominated for Most Stylish Band, arrived at the bash after playing a sold-out gig at the Carling Academy in Glasgow.
Edith admitted she is a massive fan of frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri.
"In terms of a Scottish icon of style, it has to be Sharleen Spiteri," she said
