Pop Idol's TV diet result By Lynn Mcpherson And Jane Hamilton THIS is the first picture of the newly 'slimline' Michelle McManus after she dropped more than four stone. The 17-stone Pop Idol winner signed up for a celebrity version of Channel 4's You Are What You Eat with nutritionist Gillian McKeith . Michelle was a size 22-24 when she embarked on Dr Gillian's six-month healthy eating programme. But just three months in, the pounds have been falling off. Striding across the road to go for a driving lesson near her London flat, Michelle, 24, looks happier and more confident since embarking on the strict no booze regime. She does have another three stones to go but it's a far cry from this time last year when she was snapped bulging out of her swimsuit in Barbados. Dr Margaret Ritchie, a nutritional scientist from St Andrews University, said the singer was clearly revelling in her new healthy lifestyle. She added: 'Looking at Michelle I can see that there has been a significant weight loss. Not only does she look better, she looks a lot happier and much younger. 'Her skin and hair both look much healthier as under the new exercise and eating regime her organs will be much more effective.' Under Dr McKeith's watchful eye, Michelle, of Baillieston, Glasgow, has been banned from indulging in her usual takeaways in favour of fresh food and she has ditched her favourite tipple - Jack Daniels - for water. The show will air in June and viewers will see the TV diet guru rummage through Michelle's kitchen cupboards and put her junk food addiction under the microscope. Dr McKeith says the singer is her biggest challenge yet. She said: 'I was horrified. I didn't think she'd be able to do it. Michelle seemed to be stuck in her eating and drinking ways. 'She didn't want to change. She seemed happy the way she was. She ate rubbish and her lifestyle was bad.' Yvette Dore, from programme makers Celador said: 'For Michelle this has always been about getting healthy and adopting a healthier lifestyle.' Michelle joins a string of stars - like former Westlife hunk Brian McFadden - who have used the doc's eating plans to transform their shape. Sorry, no Pic :SundayMail |
