PressAssociation Model Nell McAndrew and singer Will Young have been unveiled as winners of one of the most coveted prizes in the showbusiness world - the Rear of the Year awards.
The TV presenter and Pop Idol winner were voted by the public to have the best looking backsides of 2005 in the 23rd year of the annual awards, held at the Carlton Tower Hotel, Knightsbridge. Ms McAndrew, who has also been named official Forces Sweetheart, Fittest Celebrity on the Planet - with Brad Pitt - and Yorkshire Woman of the Year, said she had worked hard at keeping her bottom toned. "I'm a great believer in working hard to keep my body fit and healthy. To keep my rear toned I do lots of squats, lunges, running and cycling," she said. Mr Young said he was "absolutely thrilled" by the award. "I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me," he said. Ms McAndrew joins a long list of celebrity winners including singer Charlotte Church, Denise van Outen, Natasha Hamilton, Claire Sweeney and last year's winner Alex Best.
Mr Young is the latest in a line of British music artists who have won the Rear of the Year award, including Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow and Ronan Keating. The pair were voted for on the official web site http://www.rearoftheyearcompetition.com. Tony Edwards, organiser of the annual awards, said bottom shapes were an important fashion indicator. "During the 1950s a well-rounded, larger rear, typified by Monroe, was the fashion while, just a decade later, the rear was small and neat like Twiggy. "In the fitness-conscious 21st century, a well-toned, firm, athletic rear is very much in style and seems destined to remain so for a while to come." |
