American Idol judge Simon Cowell is determined to continue working until he "loses the plot", because the world needs him to pluck talented artists from obscurity.
The harsh-but-fair British pop mogul is already wealthy enough to retire, but he insists he will only stop when he loses the ability to spot gifted hopefuls.
He says: "I don't need to work but I love it. I'll only retire when I lose the plot. There's an awful lot more I want to do - more TV shows, new artists.
"What I'm good at is understanding what's going to be popular. The minute I lose that is the time to retire."
