X Factor star Shayne Ward's preparations for Saturday's final were thrown into turmoil when his mother was arrested by police.
Philomena Ward, 48, was arrested in a pub in Manchester on Wednesday night after reports of a brawl.
A bouncer claimed he was punched during the incident at the city centre pub.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called to the Piccadilly Tavern on Piccadilly in Manchester City Centre at approximately 7pm on Wednesday, December 14, following reports of a disturbance.
"On attendance at the scene, officers arrested three people on suspicion of Section 47 assault.
"The 47-year-old man from Salford, the 32-year-old man from Gorton and the 48-year-old woman from Clayton have been released on police bail, to reappear on February 1, 2005."
Shayne, 21, and his large family come from Clayton in inner-city east Manchester.
The singer is favourite to win Saturday's show, when he faces up against binman Andy Abraham and brothers Carl and Andy Pemberton in Journey South.
