Despite the fact that American Idol is a show about amateur singers, the power house program still managed to beat out the professionals at the Grammy Awards in the ratings last week.
Idol alum
Kelly Clarkson was honored with two awards, but it still was not enough to make Idol viewers change the channel, as 28.6 million people watched Idol during the 8 o'clock hour, while only about 15 million watched the Grammys, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The award ceremony slipped 10 percent compared to last year, and among viewers 18 to 49, Idol won by a ratio of nearly 2 to 1.
The situation did brighten once Idol ended, as the Grammys had 19.3 million viewers at 9 p.m. and 18.3 million in the 10 p.m. hour, notes the Times.
