EXCLUSIVE Scots diet guru Gillian signs up for celebrity version of TV talent show
By Karen Bale
DIET guru Gillian McKeith has signed up for Celebrity X Factor.
The Scots-born TV presenter will join a string of stars for a special version of the hit show this summer.
The You Are What You Eat presenter is one of the first celebrities to agree to appear in the contest.
Nutritionist Gillian - who will face judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh on the show - has told pals she's already started singing lessons.
A source said: "Gillian, is so excited about this.
"She's always wanted to be a singer and she is over the moon at the thought of singing in front of an audience.
"She's really serious about it so she's started singing lessons.
"Gillian's not the best singer in the world but she really wants to do well on the show and sees it as her big chance.
"X Factor pulls in such a big audience and is one of the biggest shows on TV, so it's Gillian's chance to shine.
"She never thought she'd get an opportunity like this and she doesn't want to mess it up."
ITV bosses have approached a host of big names including Posh Spice as well as Big Brother stars Jade Goody, 24, and Chantelle Houghton, 22.
Stars are rumoured to have been offered £50,000 to appear on the show.
And presenter Kate Thornton has clinched a bumper £500,000 deal to host the programme.
TV chiefs were determined not to lose the blonde, who is a great hit with viewers.
Kate will front eight consecutive nights of Celebrity X Factor, which kicks off on May 29.
Just like in the normal show, contestants will be divided into under-25s, over-25s and groups - with each judge acting as a mentor.
Other possible contestants include Charlotte Church's rugby star boyfriend Gavin Henson, 24, Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien, 22, and ex-boxer Chris Eubank, 39.
The source added: "ITV want some real characters who will keep viewers entertained.
"They want some high-profile personalities who will grab the audience and keep their attention.
"ITV bosses are determined to beat Big Brother in the ratings war.
"They are delighted that Gillian has agreed to do the show as they know she will be a favourite with viewers."
Gillian, originally from Perth, famously helped singer Michelle McManus lose more than six stones on a strict diet that saw her drop from a size 26 to a 16.
Gillian grew up in Scotland, but moved to America where she continued to study nutrition.
She has also studied herbalism, Oriental medicine and acupuncture.
She spent around 15 years in the States where she became a regular health expert on Joan Rivers's chatshow and featured on other TV slots.
She returned to Britain 12 years ago and now runs the McKeith Health Clinic in London.
She treats Hollywood stars such as Michelle Pfeiffer and Demi Moore, members of the Royal Family and Olympic athletes.
