March 9 2006 Undercover Only in America (we hope)! Apparently nine fans of American Idol winner Clay Aiken plan to take out a class action suit against the singer and their record company for deceiving them about the promotion of his “virginal, asexual” character following tabloid claims of a gay romp between Aiken and a retired soldier. As Contact Music reports, the fan leading the class action reasons that the record labels have a "vested interest in the marketing and promotion of Clay Aiken as a virginal, asexual character. The recent media about Clay has shown this to, apparently, be a lie, and that image (was) only designed to enrich the record company at the expense of consumers.” Yup, they’re claiming false advertising. She goes on, “As former fans, we just feel ripped off and hurt. We believe that this was absolutely fraudulent and that we may have actionable recourse against the record company." If this ludicrous behaviour gets honoured by the US legal system, I guess we can look forward to investigations of Simpson sister’s pre-fame virginity, whether Three 6 Mafia have even been arrested for pandering and whether Johnny Cash did really fall into a burning ring of fire. |
