I'VE always wondered why some bands take on the greats by covering classic songs - and murdering them.

So when I heard that X Factor finalists Journey South were going to sing Roberta Flack's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, I feared it might be the last time they saw their record contract.

Then they sang. And blew everyone in the GMTV studio away. It's brilliant. That Simon Cowell knows what he's doing.

Post subject:  Boys want a long Journey

TWLEVE months ago Journey South stars Andy and Carl Pemberton had given up on music.

The struggling singers had quit their labouring jobs in the hope of making it big – but instead ended up suffering from depression and piling up massive debts.

Now, things couldn’t be more different. Andy and Carl have joined forces with music genius Simon Cowell to release their self-entitled debut album.

And in an exclusive webchat, the hunky X Factor finalists told us about their rapid rise to fame, looking like David Beckham and Superman tattoos.

They also reveal the gossip on their recent X Factor tour, what Simon Cowell is really like and their hilarious childhood pranks.

LONDON (Reuters) - Pop duo Journey South won the battle of the "X Factor" finalists on Sunday when they pipped former bin man Andy Abraham to the top of the album charts, according to data from the Official UK Charts Company.

The debut CD, also named "Journey South", from Middlesbrough brothers Carl and Andy Pemberton, restricted Abraham's new release, "The Impossible Dream", to second place.

Both acts -- runners-up to Manchester singer Shayne Ward on ITV's "X Factor" talent show -- outsold American R&B star Prince, whose new album "3121" entered the charts at number ten.

In the singles charts, top honours went to American R&B singer Ne-Yo -- real name Schaffer Smith -- whose "So Sick" jumped into the number one spot.

Indie band Embrace were new at number two with "Nature's Law", while last week's number one, "No Tomorrow", from Californian band Orson, slipped to third place

American singer Pink entered the chart at number four with "Stupid Girls".

Leeds soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae, whose eponymous debut album topped the charts last week, was steady at number five with "Put Your Records On".
