| Post subject: | Paula Abdul to be Replaced...or NOT ??? |
Producers of the highly popular show American Idol are thinking about firing judge Paula Abdul, one of the most boring TV presences in later years. Her position is threatened by her difficult behavior, her emotional outbursts and the lack of criticism she displays in every show. More than that, an increasing number of viewers are starting to comment on Paula’s “constantly high on something” appearance. Regardless of the quality of the contestant’s performance, Abdul stubbornly uses the same two sentences over and over again: “You are a star” and “What I Like about you is…”. This mellow attitude and the lack of professional input are even more obvious in comparison to Simon Cowell’s well - known acid remarks and high standards. Since her presence is becoming more and more inconsequential, the show’s producers are thinking seriously of finding a replacement, someone more critical or at least someone younger that would have much more success in attracting the audience. Among the candidates for Abdul’s job are Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. A source tells US Weekly: "Paula was being very difficult. She was crying all the time and arriving late for meetings." About the replacement: "They liked Jessica (Simpson) a lot. And some were pushing for Britney (Spears)." SoftPedia |

| Post subject: | Abdul to judge 'Idol' for 3 more years |
March 30, 2006 Canoe LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paula Abdul has decided she can continue to put up with Simon Cowell on American Idol. Abdul, who shares judging duties on Fox's hit talent show with Cowell and Randy Jackson, has signed a deal to remain for another three years, the network announced Wednesday. She and Cowell are known for their bickering on the program, which is drawing bigger audiences than ever in its fifth edition. While Cowell often slams contestants, Abdul takes a gentler approach in her comments. The contestants "truly inspire and amaze me each week," Abdul said in a statement. "Of course, I also look forward to putting Simon in his place for years to come." Cowell and Fox reached a deal in November that will keep the British record executive and TV producer on the show for at least five more seasons. Abdul is a singer and a movie, TV and stage choreographer who has worked with Janet Jackson, George Michael and Prince. American Idol is paring the finalists down to the winner, who will be announced on the May 24 finale. This week, the field was to be reduced to nine after another contestant was voted off Wednesday. |
