CELEBRITY X Factor beat Big Brother last night in the opening round of the reality TV ratings battle.

An audience of 5.5 million tuned in to the launch episode of ITV1’s The X Factor: Battle Of The Stars, while over on Channel 4 Big Brother had 4.6 million viewers.

However, the big surprise of the night was that both big-budget shows were trounced by BBC1’s police drama New Tricks, which had ratings of 7.9 million.
