We will Abba go at judging
ABBA hitmakers Benny and Björn Ulvaeus have been signed up as judges on TV’s X Factor.
The Swedish pair will not only help groom the wannabes for stardom, but will also give their verdicts on those who make the show’s final.
Benny, 59, and Björn, 61, who penned global hits like Mamma Mia, SOS and Dancing Queen, have been invited to help out on the ITV series by Mr Nasty Simon Cowell.
The pair will work with the budding stars, giving them tips about vocal and stage performance, ahead of the nail-biting live shows where the hopefuls will have to sing for their survival.
Last night an X Factor source said: "This is a major coup for us. To get the guys who wrote Abba’s hits to be involved in our show is just amazing."
This weekend the judges – Simon, 46, Sharon Osbourne, 53, and Louis Walsh, 54 – will reveal who the 12 finalists are. The following week, the acts will have to start performing live to the nation as viewers vote to save their faves.
However, this year Simon has lined up a celebrity-packed twist to the show.
Each week will be themed to a particular artist including Abba, Rod Stewart, 61, Lionel Richie, 57, and Take That.
Having worked with the wannabes during the week, the stars will make a guest appearance on the night and give their verdicts on the performances.
Benny and Björn – along with Agnetha Faltskog, 56, and Annifrid Lyngstad, 60 – have sold more than 360million records worldwide. They will appear on the show next month.
The X Factor is on ITV1 at 6.10pm and 8.30pm on Saturday.
