Gareth Gates Documentary
Pop Idol's Gareth Gates is returning to television with a documentary about his life.
The 22-year-old, who is preparing to make a comeback as a singer-songwriter, has decided to tell his own story in the ITV1 film.
The Bradford-born former star became a household name after appearing on Pop Idol in 2002, when he overcame his stutter to win an army of fans.
His debut single, a cover of Unchained Melody, sold 1.3 million copies and went to number one, but the Pop Idol runner-up tarnished his image by having an affair with glamour model Jordan, and was dumped by his record label Sony BMG.
Cameras began following Gareth around for the new one-hour documentary in recent months.
An ITV1 spokesman said: "This prime-time footage will show the impacts and consequences that fame thrusts upon artists hoping to survive successfully within the pressures of the music industry, and will also showcase some of Gareth's new music as he prepares to re-launch back into the spotlight to do what he loves most."
Gareth said of the documentary, which will be shown later this year: "To sell over a million singles at just 17 is so many people's dream and it happened to me.
"With all the advice and support in the world, nothing prepares you for the pressures and personal development that comes with that.
"The past five years have been a real rollercoaster, and I hope this show gives people the chance to see the real me." [/url=http://www.waveguide.co.uk/news061014.htm#Gareth%20Gates%20Documentary]waveguide
