THE REALITY IS WE'RE RACISTS

Fiona Phillips

I'VE been dying to say this for ages, but haven't had the guts. However, when Ray Fearon went out of Strictly Come Dancing last Saturday and Nikita bit the dust on The X Factor, I finally snapped.

Saturday night prime-time TV has unveiled us all as a bunch of prejudiced ninnies.

Simon Cowell was right when he expressed a worry that the hugely talented Leona might not win The X Factor because he reckons the public don't vote for girls.

He's right - she's the only girl left on the show. But Leona's mum was closer to the mark when she claimed her daughter won't win because she's black.

Marie Lewis said: "It's her dream to win, but I think the public will vote for Ben. Racism does play a part in the public vote. How else can you explain Dionne going out so soon?'

How indeed? Dionne was kicked off The X Factor after being in the bottom two every week. She was followed by 4 Sure, then the brilliant Ashley, and last week by Nikita.

There's a bit of a disturbing pattern here. Yes, Robert's still in, but he's been in the bottom two far more than his performances deserve.

Over on Strictly Come Dancing, Mica Paris was the first girl out, Spoony was shown the door despite being a natural, and last week everyone was shocked when Ray was booted off. OK, Georgina and Jan went, too. But they couldn't dance - and they're girls!

And then we have The X Factor's Macdonald Brothers, still tormenting us every Saturday because of the rampant Scottish vote.

What an odd little island we are. We think we're more tolerant than other places, but it's clear that girls are discriminated against, racism is alive and well and the Scots are still trying to prove a point.

And now I'll prove another one. Lemar (Fame Academy) and Andy Abraham (The X Factor) are two of the most successful talent show contestants ever.

Neither of them got your winning votes, but they've turned out to be the real winners in the end. Yay!
