Bizarre clause in X Factor contract

The contract, which is enforceable anywhere in the world "and the solar system" says the artists must not make any comments that are unduly negative, critical or derogatory of the company " including its personnel and, in particular, Simon Cowell".

Simon Cowell has admitted to being embarrassed by the leak of the X Factor winner's contract.

He confirmed the winner will only get paid £150,000, but insisted the total investment in whoever wins the ITV1 show on Saturday will exceed £1m.

Cowell said: "It is £150,000 to the winner, that's a lot of dosh, add recording costs of £300-400K, £200,000 on advertising - we make a commitment of over £1m."

The music mogul also admitted that he was surprised by a clause banning the winner from insulting him anywhere in the "solar system".

"I was not aware that I was one of the clauses," he said. "It is probably the most useless clause because everybody does talk horribly about me and you know what - I don't care."

Cowell denied reports Dannii Minogue would be kicked off the judging panel.

"We've got to get the contracts sorted out but I would be surprised if it was a different line-up," he said.

Meanwhile, Cowell referred to finalist Eoghan Quigg and last week's eliminated contestant Diana Vickers as "two young kids in love". The pair have both denied persistent rumours they are in a relationship.
