IT SOUNDS like the X Factor winner might not be coming from Wales again this year – if last weekend’s auditions are anything to go by.

According to show sources, an embarrassing lack of applicants turned up at the Millennium Stadium – and things were so bad they opened the floodgates and let anyone and everyone in.

The only saving grace was that it was only the first round and the would-be superstars were just performing in front of the hit ITV1 show’s producers – or else judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh might well have been left red-faced.

To bag a place in the audition room and stand a chance of becoming the next Alexandra Burke or Rhydian Roberts, pictured, wannabes have to formally apply.

But according to our insider, not enough people put themselves forward.

Our source revealed: “But even when they announced it was an open audition, it didn’t look like there was very much talent from what we could see.”
