The X-Factor judge beat off competition from other stars such as Ant & Dec, Martin Clunes and Jamie Oliver to land the accolade from TV industry magazine Broadcast. It said that "2009 ended with only one man controlling TV" as Cowell's talent shows Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor dominated the year with audiences that peaked at more than 19 million.
