Victoria Beckham's chance to woo mainstream America has failed spectacularly if the TV critics who witnessed her debut as a guest judge on American Idol are to be believed. Based on her appearance last night, they branded her as looking "too crazy" and disliked her "gaunt" features.
The show is the most popular programme on American television, with an average audience of 26 million. Beckham was one of several celebrity judges filmed last August in a search to find a replacement for Paula Abdul. Americans were able to see for themselves last night why Beckham was not given the job and why it went instead to the comedian and TV chatshow host Ellen DeGeneres.
