UK Border Agency confirms that Clackmannanshire-based teenager must now return to Zimbabwe.

Scottish X Factor star Gamu Nhengu, whose axing from the show caused a storm of protest among viewers, has been told to leave the UK.

The UK Border Agency confirmed that the teenager must now return to her native Zimbabwe.

Miss Nhengu, 18, was allowed to stay in the country as a dependant while her mother, Nokuthula Ngazana, studied at university. The family arrived in Scotland from Zimbabwe five years ago.

But her mother's visa has now expired and the family's application to remain has been rejected as they did not meet Home Office criteria. The family has now been told to leave the UK voluntarily or face deportation.

The family do not have a right to appeal and the singer cannot apply separately to remain in this country.

GAMU ‘HAS STRONG CASE TO STAY IN BRITAIN’

SUPPORT is growing for X Factor loser Gamu Nhengu to remain in Britain.

As fans surrounded the singer’s Scottish home, a lawyer representing the 18-year-old Zimbabwean and her family said she was “certain” there were grounds to fight their deportation.

Meanwhile immigration minister Damian Green was urged by Zimbabwe’s opposition Zapu party to “exercise leniency” in their case.

Paper Says X Factor Reject Will Be Shot

X Factor reject Gamu Nhengu last night pleaded not to be deported to Zimbabwe, saying: "A firing squad's waiting for us."

According to the News of the World, the singer said The X Factor has wrecked her life.

In an interview for the paper Gamu said she is convinced tyrant Robert Mugabe's henchmen will kill her family if they are forced to return to their native Zimbabwe.

Gamu, 18, said they now faced deportation "just because I tried to do something that I wanted, that I loved."

And she told the paper: "I've been in the public eye now and people there know I've fled Mugabe's regime. They will punish us if we go back. They're going to know where we are.

"We're going to be very unsafe. People have already been approaching our family members.

"We think they could be working for Mugabe. And we know how brutal he can be. I would be in danger, it's blatantly obvious. My family would be in danger."

More than 250,000 Facebook fans signed a petition to get Gamu back on last night's show as a wildcard entry.

UK resumes Zimbabwe deportations

The Home Office says it will resume enforced returns of Zimbabweans with no legal right to be in the UK, after a four-year moratorium.

The courts stopped deportations to Zimbabwe in 2006 when judges ruled that the country wasn't safe.

That legal bar was lifted two years later, but the Home Office did not resume enforced returns immediately.

Some 13,000 Zimbabweans have sought asylum in the UK over the past five years and a third were granted asylum.

It is not clear when the UK Border Agency will attempt to organise the first flights - but they are likely to follow a forthcoming ruling on conditions in the country.

Immigration minister Damian Green said the decision to resume enforced returns reflected the "improved stability in Zimbabwe since 2009 and the UK court's view that not all Zimbabweans are in need of international protection."
