'Norwegian Pop Idol Kurt Nilsen stunned pop pundits by walking away with the World Idol title last night, pushing the UK’s hope Will Young to fifth place.

Nilsen, who consistently received top marks for his rendition of U2’s Beautiful Day, was the surprise winner of the show, after judges criticised his looks and image.

One even went so far as to say he has the “voice of an angel, but the looks of a hobbit”, while Simon Cowell told him that, if the contest was radio based and not on TV, he would walk it.

But after winning, Nilsen hit out at Will Young, telling a Norwegian newspaper that Young refused to shake his hand and was an “asshole”.

He said the UK Idol, who saw his second album Friday’s Child hit number one the week before the show, refused to talk to him when the cameras were not rolling.

Rumours are circling that Young was forced into doing the show, which he publicly admitted could turn into a “tacky Eurovision”, and was keen to distance himself from the experience.'

I said that! I said that Will wouldn't do the programme unless he was forced to! I reckon Kelly didn't want to do it either. Will was taking the p**s everytime the camera was on him.

I got that impression too. No disrespect to other idols, eg Kelly is making it big style, I think that Will is above that sort of thing. I would think he was dissing the concept, rather than an individual.

he told parkinson the other week he thought it was tacky but was contractually bound to do it - dont think kelly clarkson wanted to either when you think that they have sold millions of records and that kurt has todate sold 75,000 you can see why they wouldnt want do it

they should have given him the option and let the second place do it

At the end of the day Will Young is ONLY where he is because of pop idol! The UK version was good enough for him to launch his career but he thinks hes too good for the World version?? Dont think he's done himself any favours by putting the show down, just made himself look like a spoilt child!!

I'm sure he has to do things everyday he doesnt want to but is contractually bound to do! He should think himself lucky he was asked to represent his country!

On the other hand I never saw any of the program! ::lol::

It was very like the euro all over again and everyone knew where the voting was going.

Any where except England and the USA
