Fans' messages crash Pop Idol winner's website
Record company bosses have revealed how the website of Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus crashed after being flooded with messages from fans.
The company denied reports that the official site had been temporarily closed down after abusive and offensive messages about the Glasgow pop star's weight were posted.
It claimed the site crashed as a result of technical difficulties caused by the volume of users on the chat forum.
Meanwhile Weight Watchers advised Michelle, from Ballieston, to use their website to help her juggle her weight loss with her busy new pop star schedule.
The international slimming club confirmed that they had written to Michelle before she scooped the Pop Idol title to wish her luck in the final.
A spokeswoman for Weight Watchers said: "Michelle attended our classes for a few months and did really well so we wrote to her congratulating her and wishing her all the best for the final."
She said she hoped Michelle would manage to stick to her new healthy diet when she goes on tour in March.
