Strictly the best: Oldest contestant Cherie Lunghi is the judges' favourite... as 'Jelly' Jessie Wallace comes bottom

--------------- Image

Strictly Come Dancing was as much about the dresses as the dancing as the girls hit the dancefloor for the first time.
Bruce Forsyth said it best: 'I can't help noting that the salsa dresses are even shorter than last year, thank goodness for the credit crunch!'

Last night the big surprise was last to perform Cherie Lunghi who, despite being the oldest female contestant at 56, was the judge's favourite, taking 33 points, the top score in the series so far.

Strictly come off it, Brendan

On the dancefloor he tends to get what he wants. But now it seems Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has started to adopt the same attitude off-screen. We're told the 32-year-old threatened to pull out of a photoshoot unless organisers gave in to certain demands.

Our spy said: "Brendan was asked if he would like a blue Ferrari 360 Spider for the weekend, on the understanding that he then did a photoshoot for luxury car club Marque 2, which deals with the likes of Ferrari's, Jags and other fast cars - so he definitely had a good time.

"But when it came to sorting out details of the shoot, he threatened to pull out of the agreement unless he was given a year's membership to the luxury car club, which is worth £5,000. Strictly Come Dancing is now back on the screens and he believes that his profile has been raised since their initial discussion, so any pictures involving him would be worth more. Organisers were left shocked and so refused his demands."

Strictly Come Dancing-6:40pm - 8:10pm Saturday 18 October

6/15

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the fifth round of the celebrity ballroom dancing competition, which sees the remaining male and female stars going head to head for the first time. They must choose between performing either a samba, one of the most difficult Latin dances, or an American smooth, where the couples can perform two lifts. Who will impress judges Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli?
