Strictly Results Show Moves To Sunday

Strictly Come Dancing – the results show will move to Sundays in a new 45-minute show on BBC One.

The new extended show – which will be an extra 15 minutes long – will include more behind–the–scenes footage and music performances together with more dancing.

In a change to the format, the judges will make the final decision on who will leave the competition on Sundays. When the programme closes on Saturday night viewers will continue to vote for their favourite couple for one hour following the end of the programme. The phone lines will then close and the votes will be counted and verified.

When the show returns on Sunday evening the results will be announced with the viewers vote and the judges' scores combining to save the couples. The bottom two couples will then face a dance–off leaving the judges to decide – based solely on that performance alone – who should stay and who should go.

If the judges' vote is split 50/50 then head judge Len Goodman will have the deciding vote on who should be saved.

In the final week the viewers will decide who will be crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion 2007.

Strictly Come Dancing starts on BBC One on Saturday October 6.

Strictly Come Dancing – the results show starts on BBC One on Sunday October 7.

This show was clearly filmed on Saturday night. Arlene and Rod Stewart were dressed as they were on the 'live' show on Saturday evening.

Another BBC scam?

I thought it was a bit strange when they said the phone lines closed at 9 surely they would want the lines to stay open overnight to get more money

I felt sorry for Brian Capron being voted out so soon -but at the same time, I don't think any of the older male or female contestants are capable of winning S.C.D with all the physical work that's required, so there's no point keeping them in till the finals. For that reason, Willie, Stephanie and Dominic should go out sooner rather than later.IMO

I thought Getin (sp?) and Camilla were the best so far, couldn't believe how harsh the judges were on them.

BTW, all the girls's dresses/costumes were lovely EXCEPT for Letitia's - she looked like a pink blancmange! - luckily she had a bit of personality about her when she danced ...which sort of helped take my mind off her dress.

Looking forward to seeing the girls' dance next week.

Strictly Come Dancing Show Defended

The BBC has responded to criticisms that its Sunday edition of Strictly Come Dancing is pre-recorded, stating that it was "never billed as live".

The corporation said about 25 viewers complained after seeing contestant Kenny Logan on ITV's live rugby coverage from Paris shortly after he had been seen dancing for survival on BBC One.

A BBC spokeswoman said it "never set out to trick people", adding that many other programmes are recorded as live.

The results show is pre-recorded after Saturday evening's live show.

The programme is taped after viewers' votes have been counted and verified.

Logan, who won 70 caps for Scotland during his 13-year international career, is working on ITV's coverage of the Rugby World Cup as well as appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Others claimed that it was unclear that the show was pre-recorded and commented that it was "misleading".

The BBC spokeswoman added that other programmes are recorded in advance, including Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, which is recorded on Thursdays.

She said that it is common practice that references to the day that a show is transmitted are made.

Didn't they tape a results show once which ended up with Graham Norton's voice appearing on the first ever episode of the new Dr Who?

Gabby Logan exclusive
GABBY'S READY TO SPARKLE HUSBAND AND WIFE STAR ON STRICTLY BUT SWAPPING ENDS ON THE DANCEFLOOR

Watching your giggling wife collapse under the weight of her sexy dance tutor on national television could spell trouble for some marriages.

But not TV sports presenter Gabby Logan's. Because her husband Kenny's next door - doing something similar with the wife of Gabby's instructor.

Fear not though, this is no sleazy version of Wife Swap. Gabby and Kenny are the first husband and wife team on Strictly Come Dancing.

And as an added quirk, they're partnered with husband and wife professionals James and Ola Jordan.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mirror ahead of tonight's "ladies" show, Gabby says: "We all work well together. Because James and Ola live outside of London we train at the same location so they can travel in together.

"It's been nice for the four of us to have coffee or go for lunch."

Mega-fit Gabby, whose background as a gymnast gives her a head-start in the flexibility stakes, is more concerned about her husband's two left feet.

"Before we started this, Kenny had no sense of rhythm and wasn't musical in the slightest," she says. "The only time I've seen him dance was at our wedding."

Rugby star Kenny, 35, was nearly booted off the show last week but the panel spared him after a dance-off with former Corrie serial killer Brian Capron.

Gabby, 34, says: "I think watching Kenny perform last week was more nerve-wracking than actually going out there myself.

"My stomach hurt with nerves. And when he was in the dance-off I felt physically ill.

"I know how hard he's worked and how much he wants to dance. When he survived, the relief was immense. He's got a lot more to give."

Despite putting in four hours' training every day to nail the complex footwork, Gabby wants get more practice. She says: "There just aren't enough hours in the day. I'd love to have done more. But I've still got my sports show to do and I've had to fly up to Scotland this week to interview Kevin Keegan. So fitting the training around my normal work schedule hasn't been easy."

But Gabby and Kenny, who have two-year-old twins Lois and Reuben, are in no rush to bring their training home.

"I think we'd just confuse each other if we practised at home," she says. "We're learning completely different dances with completely different steps. Though if the series goes on and we both stay in we might end up having a few practices."

Juggling her arduous training schedule with her everyday work commitments for the BBC means that Gabby can't spend as much time with her toddlers as she'd like.

But she and Kenny, who married in 2001, try to make sure at least one of them is there to tuck the twins up in bed at the end of the day.

Gabby says: "I enjoy every second I spend with the children and whatever we do we fit everything around their routine.

"I miss them when I'm away or working and I'd never want to be apart from them for days on end. One of us will always be there at bedtime. We both value time with our children so much. They get on well together but they sometimes squabble. Lois has a lovely mark on her face where Reuben took a chunk out of it the other day. But they're generally very good."

They're less good at recognising their parents when they appear on telly - Lois thinks her mum is Strictly's co-host Tess Daly!

Gabby laughs: "Lois was shouting, 'Mummy! Mummy!' when she saw Tess.

"I think I'd have to be multi-talented to host the show, do all the interviews AND perform in the dances!

"And when Kenny was playing rugby Reuben would go up to the TV and wave and call for him. Then he'd wonder why his daddy wasn't answering him back.

"They're enjoying us doing the show though. The other night Lois woke up at 3am and I went in to check on her. She looked at me and said, 'Finished dancing?'"

Tonight it's the girls' turn to take centre stage on the show. Gabby will be performing the quick step and faces stiff competition from Kelly Brook, Penny Lancaster and ex-Misteeq singer Alesha Dixon.

"I'm really looking forward to it," says Gabby. "I just want to get out there and do this dance."

Last week's girl group dance gave the audience a taste of what to expect from this year's female contingent. And the standard looked pretty high.

"Yeah, the group dance went well but dancing solo is going to be totally different," says Gabby. "It was very showy and we all had a great time doing it. But you've got to be a lot more technical when there's just the two of you."

Gabby's loving the camaraderie among her fellow competitors.

"Everybody really gets on and the girls are all fantastic," she says. "It's a great cast, a lovely mixed bag. There's no one you wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with. And the professional dancers are all brilliant as well, so generous with their time.

"It was nice to see Kate Garraway on Saturday - she's missed out on getting to know us because of her injury.

"I've known John Barnes for a long time and I've met Penny Lancaster a few times as well. I'd not met Kelly Brook before but she seems very easy-going."

But Gabby says that her mischievous sense of humour saw her bond with a few of the contestants in particular.

"Alesha Dixon, Letitia Dean and I were like the three naughty schoolgirls on Saturday," she laughs. "We were giggling at everything. Also I have to give a special mention to Stephanie Beacham who is just so funny. I think she's also quite vulnerable which is sweet. She's definitely the Grande Dame of the contestants."

Strictly has been responsible for some dramatic weight losses over the years - former contestants Jan Ravens, Darren Gough and James Martin all finished the series far trimmer than when they started.

But Gabby reckons she's actually doing less exercise than normal. She says: "I could do with going for a couple of runs.

Learning to dance is very stop-start and I'm not getting as much cardio as I normally do. So it's fun and I'm sure it's doing me good but I haven't noticed any major differences in my body yet.

"I've been more tired though. I came home from Saturday's show exhausted. But I was on a high so I couldn't get to sleep when I went to bed. It was 4.30am before I finally went off and then I was up again with the twins three hours later. So it's going to be draining, but I can handle it."

But can she win it? "I want to do as well as I know I can," she smiles. "There's so much to think about - the steps, your posture, everything. It's a really steep learning curve and hard work.

"Most of all I hope I can go out there and make people smile. That would be great."

Strictly Come Dancing is on tonight at 6.15pm, and tomorrow at 6.45pm, BBC1.

SUPERB FIGURES!

Last week there were...

78 costume changes.

172 metres of fabric to make the dresses.

24 cans of tan spraye

Gabby Logan blasts back

By Beth Neil Beth.Neil@Mirror.Co.Uk

It's meant to be the classy grown-up weekend television alternative to Simon Cowell's brash X Factor.

But for drama, bitching and backstage controversy, BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing is proving more like murder on the dancefloor.

Last weekend, two of the initial favourites, Gabby Logan and Penny Lancaster, were left to slug it out in the dreaded dance-off after wowing judges but failing to win the viewers' hearts and votes.

Given her polished displays, many dance fans were incensed when Gabby was voted off. Even judges were fuming that the public vote had put her in line for the chop - while clumsy Kate Garraway lived to fight another week.

Now, despite her brave face as she was axed, it's clear Gabby is hopping mad.

The star, 34, fumed yesterday: "I am absolutely gutted to have gone out so early. I thought if you worked hard and were honest, you'd be OK. Maybe I was wrong.

"I was getting a real buzz from everything about the show. But apparently 'my journey' isn't interesting enough.

"Maybe I should have played the game a bit more. That might be what you have to do to stay in the show."

Her outburst gives an insight into the backbiting that has hit the BBC1 series.

Gmtv star Kate's dance flaws on the dance floor have left judges wincing in horror and her bruised dance partner Anton du Beke wincing in agony. Yet Gabby believes Kate, 39, has won public sympathy by laying bare her Strictly Come Dancing ordeal to her breakfast TV audience. Gabby, who hosts BBC's Inside Sport, blasted: "I don't have a PR machine, I don't have a publicist. A lot of the others do and maybe I should have considered that."

Hinting that Kate had got the public on her side through her GMTV role, Gabby said: " I don't have that outlet. My Inside Sport viewers won't vote on Strictly Come Dancing."

She went on: "People blame Kate, but it's not her fault the public keep voting for her. When she came over to say goodbye she had a slightly embarrassed look in her eye."

Last weekend judges voted Penny and partner Ian Waite an impressive fourth, while Gabby and her partner James Jordan were sixth.

But the women have failed to win over viewers amid claims they are too competitive. And the weight of public votes dumped them in the bottom two, leaving them to battle each other last Sunday to avoid the boot.

In a contest that had eight million viewers glued to their sets, the panel backed Penny three to one.

But chief judge Len fumed: "This was not my role. My role was to vote off one of the worst dancers, not one of the best."

And host Bruce Forsyth gently chided viewers as he told them: "Next week, remember this is a dance contest." Gabby's rugby star husband Kenny was so stunned he offered to give up his place to let her stay.

The mum of two revealed: "He's bewildered by the result.

"He phoned the BBC and asked if he could step down to allow me back in. That was really touching.

"But we've got to accept the decision."

Fans were just as staggered. One raged on an internet forum: "I'm disgusted about what happened. I still don't quite believe it."

Another criticised the new policy of keeping voting lines open all week.

They said: "Why are we surprised when the lines are NOW open to vote for next week's winner?

"The show makes a mockery of the celebs and pros who sweated buckets to do a great dance to try and get top votes."

Gabby is mystified as to why she was so unpopular with fans.

But she slammed claims her competitive streak put them off. The TV host said: "I was made out to be extremely competitive, but Alesha Dixon put in lots more hours than me. How come I'm more competitive than her or Kelly Brook?"

Despite her disappointment, Gabby is determined to stay upbeat and will cheer on Kenny this Saturday. She said: "He's entertaining and is trying his hardest. I'll help him if he needs to practise when he comes home.

"But I'll miss dancing with James. We went through a rocky patch but were getting on so well.

"I've no idea what will happen next week. The public have surprised me and I think everyone on the show has been given a shock.

"Anyone can end up in the bottom two. The contest is wide open."

'I don't have a PR machine and I've not got GMTV viewers voting for me. I thought if you worked hard and were honest, you'd be OK. Maybe I should have played the game a bit more'

How the voting works..

THE JUDGES

Judges mark the contestants out of 10. With four judges, this makes a maximum possible score of 40.

WHAT THIS MEANS

If there are 11 contestants left in the show, the couple who come top with the judges get 11 points.

The couple who take second place get 10 points and the bottom pair get one point.

Those ranking scores are reduced each week as couples leave the show.

So, if there are, say, eight contestants left, the couple who come top with the judges get eight points, second place gets seven points and so on. The judges' marks make up 50 per cent of the overall score.

PUBLIC VOTE

If there are 11 contestants in the show, the couple who come top in the public vote get 11 points to add to their leaderboard score. The bottom pair get one point.

So if a couple had come top with the judges but bottom of the public vote, they would have a total score of 12 (11 plus 1)

If a couple had come second with the judges and fifth in the public vote, they would have 17 points (10 plus 7). The two celebs with the lowest overall scores then have to dance again for the judges - and they vote for who stays.

PANEL'S SCORES

1 Matt & Flavia 36

2 Kelly & Brendan 34

3 Alesha & Matt 33

4 Penny & Ian 32

5 Letitia & Darren 31

6 Gabby & James 30

7 Gethin & Camilla 26

7 Dom & Lilia 26

9 John & Nicole 22

10 Kenny & Ola 18

11 Kate & Anton 16

Sue Carroll's verdict

They say success only comes to those with a competitive streak.

I'm not sure Gabby Logan would agree after her swift exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

The Inside Sport presenter denies she was "ultra-competitive" but viewers aren't daft.

Pouting Penny Lancaster and Leggy Logan ended in a dramatic dance-off because, this IS a personality contest. And unfortunately neither have persuaded us theirs are very appealing.

Penny, cursed admittedly by wealth, tells us how a gruelling Strictly week consists of a personal chef cooking her chops and mashed spuds.

Meanwhile gymnast Gabby took to the dance floor like Boadicea charging into battle and literally bent over backwards to show off her athletic prowess - almost guaranteed to win clodhopping Kate Garraway the sympathy vote.

The truth is that while we gaze in awe at the long and supple limbs of Gabby and Penny, your average female will always relate to the dancing disaster with two-left feet struggling to do the Cha-Cha-Cha.

It's certainly true Anton du Beke didn't so much waltz poor Kate around the floor as carry her like a limp rag doll. But, in our hearts, we know hers was the most gutsy performance of the night.

God loves a tryer. As do Strictly Come Dancing viewers.
