Sports presenter Chris Hollins has won BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing, beating actor Ricky Whittle in a public vote in the final.

The BBC presenter had performed four dances with professional partner Ola Jordan.

Both couples produced energetic final showdances which impressed the judges.

The judges' scores after the final dance gave Whittle and Natalie Lowe 190 points and Hollins and Jordan 186 - but these did not affect the final result.

Chris Hollins upsets the odds to take Strictly Come Dancing crown

TV host Chris Hollins has beaten bookies’ favourite Ricky Whittle to be crowned winner of the 2009 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The former sportsman - who came through several rounds of the competition on the strength of public backing - became the seventh celebrity to win the competition, following in the footsteps of former colleague Natasha Kaplinsky.
