Earlier today I had to negotiate a puddle (in the middle of a road I was crossing) that was so big I couldn't NOT get my feet wet.

This isn't about weather but it is about a weatherMAN so I hope I'll be forgiven......my favourite weather presenter finally gets the recognition he deserves. Nice pic with it too, but I'm rubbish with pics and still don't know how to post them.

The Best... weatherman
by Jack Seale

Ever since Man discovered that storms weren't actually the result of Thor riding across the sky on a chariot pulled by goats, there's been a big problem with weather: it's not very funny. But if you're on TV, your duty is to entertain.

Some weatherpeople make a token effort: talking through a doggedly maintained rictus grin, wearing deliberately hilarious clothing or, if they're on ITV in the mornings, pointing to the map with their breasts instead of their hands. Yet there's only one whose performance is worth watching even if you don't care a fig for tomorrow's climate: the cult hero that is Daniel Corbett.

Dan thundered onto the precipitation prediction scene in 1997, when he first appeared on BBC News 24. Initially it was his unique two-part sign off that caught the eye: a bright "That's all the weather!" followed by a stern "…for now." It soon transpired that his whole style - a manic cross between Stanley Unwin, the Great Soprendo and Rudolf Nureyev - is gloriously idiosyncratic.

Dan's old-school. He romanticises meteorological phenomena and even days of the week into sentient, capricious forces who delight in ruining our mundane, middle-class lives. Weather fronts are personified as "he" rather than "it", and described as "troublemakers" who are "lurking" over the Atlantic, the North Sea or "the near Continent", as Dan likes to call France.

Combine this storytelling with Dan's rat-a-tat delivery and gift for malapropisms, and you get gems like: "That little troublemaker may try to put some rains on our barbecues, but I think we'll manage", "Wednesday is the day - look at this thing, it's just a mess" and "Nice day for the afternoon, maybe a picnic or so perhaps in Northern Ireland, into Scotland and 26 for Cardiff."

Dan has a number of obsessions. "Heat-of-the-day bubbly showers" appear regularly, but his chief concerns are temperatures ("let's look at the numbers"), the effect of wind on umbrellas ("hold it probably with two hands"), and what to wear on the way to work. Always on the hunt for a colourful simile, he's compared weather fronts to motorcycles stuck in mud, tumble dryers, glue and "an unwanted neighbour, just hanging there".

All this is accompanied by lithe, Bob Fosse hand gestures - Dan's arms sweeping across the map as he conducts the epic battle between us, trying to get to the office without getting wet, and the evil areas of low pressure that conspire to foil us. He hasn't blamed Thor for spoiling a golf tournament yet, but he's in that ballpark.

Details such as exactly what the weather will be like tend to get lost in Dan's flow, but to complain would be churlish. In Dan's (jazz) hands, forecasting's an art, not a science. He's the latest in a long line of great British TV eccentrics. You'll start enjoying weather almost as much as he does.

If the weather warnings are still in effect then the MET Office was predicting up to 80mm of rain between Sunday 0100 and Monday 1200 for the whole country !!

Another gift from the Atlantic.

Sighing and waiting for a wind to change. :-( It blows from the Atlantic Ocean at the moment and there's no hope to have a white winter weather as long as it's like that. :-?

When the wind turns to blow from the Russian Siberia - it'll bring along the white and snowy winter weather over here to us. And freezing coldness, too. So we're having the usual Middle-European winter weather over here as well: it's quite warm (+ 4 to + 7 degrees of Celsius at the day-time, sometimes even more) and cloudy and rainy. I don't like this darkness and greyness at all.

Today has been one of the cooler days of late.
Daytime high was 8C. Last nights low was 2.6C.
Temperture now is 1.9C and still falling.

The barometer is 1022mb a rise from 998mb.

This should soon change as the deep low near Iceland moves East and the Isobars tighten bringing strong winds. It also has a couple of fronts that'll bring the forecast heavy rain.

These fronts on the forecast charts look to reach Scandinavia during Monday and I guest they may still have some rain left. It's two warm fronts followed by a cold front.

High Pressure over the main part of Europe is battling to push the Low pressure aside which will cool things over here. There's even an area of High pressure over the Western part of the Atlantic by Tuesday so maybe the cycle will be broken. It still looks like SW winds feeding into Scandinavia.

In the last hour the weather warnings have been updated and the very heaviest of the rain is now limited to Scotland. The current Rainfall radar confirms this with very heavy rain showing.

It also shows moderate levels of rain over Wales at this time. The front bringing the rain is tracking East and should bring some rain to most parts during the day but not the levels the Met Office had predicted.

Was outside a while back and it's not too bad out there ,a little chilly but fine.

We had a frost last night with temperatures dropping to 0.8C. Currently it's 7.8C.

The barometer has fallen slightly from 1024mb to 1021mb.

Wind direction is Westerly.

MET Office is updating the warning as things change.

Warnings of very heavy rain now in effect for Wales and NW England.

Going by the radar and the current weather I'm under the leading front with some light rain ,but it now very blustery. The second front is what is providing the heavy rain for Wales and the NW.

Loving your sig, JimD.

The weather has been windy here too and raining on and off. Does anyone know if we'll have snow this year?

Heard rumours of forecasts that Jan and Feb will bring blizzards the like of which haven't been seen for decades but haven't read any forecasts yet.

Baring in mind that Jan Feb are normally the coldest months but again don't know any more.
