Sorry Felicity but there's nae chance! Our school are being really tight about shutting anyway (not that I complain TBH although tomorrow off would be lovely) in recent years, when I was in first year we shut for a more or less a whole week :-?

We'll have at the end of this week cold as in Russian Hell again - freezing weather comes from Siberia to us. :-?

Probably not as cold as where Mari is but it has been absolutely freezing here all day - it's horrible! Especially when you think you've forgotten your pink gloves and realise they're in your school bag - what a muppet  i forgot a couple of things today though ::lol::

I wonder if we'll get anymore snow. We often seem to in February.

It has been today over here -20 degrees of Celsius and it will be the same or lower the very next three or four days (and remember that with windy weather it can mean same as -38 to -48 degrees of Celsius) - my daughter moaned to me that she hasn't been outside today at all, because Kindergarten-teachers didn't let them go out today ::lol:: Terrible! ::lol::

I guess that Liisi has had much more colder than I have had today!

Today it has been less than -40 degrees of Celsius in Kittilä, Lapland! Six years ago in Januray there where less than -50 degrees of Celsius. So there's nothing new about it to us. This freezing weather can last from one week to 10 days or two weeks. (And remember that in Sahara it can get at night as cold as -20 degrees of Celsius, eventhought that it is in the daytime nearly +70 degrees of Celsius)

Today kids were playing outside at Kindergarten for a while - they explained to me this morning that they (Kindergarten-teachers!) were tired to dress that many children to go outside. That's not an excuse at all that I can accept! :-? They are working there and they get paid taking care of the children: when kids can have a little bit fresh air, even that it's freezing cold, they are much more calm indoors.

My car has been working fine in this weather - but I try to remember to use my 'lohkolämmitin' and 'sisätilanlämmitin' that keeps my car ready to start. I'm sorry but my dictionary doesn't know these spesific words in English. But it's an extra heating system that keeps your cars engine liquids warm and keeps your car warm inside.

it's maybe anti-freeze stuff Mari but I'm not very good when it comes to cars.

Like Scotslass, I can't even imagine what it would be like to feel that cold. It's actually been pretty mild here today for the time of year.

Let me try and explain what it feels like to be outside in that cold of a wether. I had to wait outside for my dad to come pick me up (couldn't drive due to a party I went to on thursday) yesterdaymorning for a half an hour or so (I left my keyes inside, so I couldn't go back in the house after I took the kids to daycare and dad was late.). I was wearing a really warm, long coat and two trousers, but it wasn't enough. You know what happens to oliveoil when you put it in the fridge? That's how I was after beeing out in the cold for a while. I tried to keep my feet warmer by walking, but then my face froze. And when I stood still my feet and fingers froze. It's a scary thought that you'd be left in that kind of cold for some reason and not have a place to warm up in. You'd be dead in a matter of hours without proper clothing.

::lol:: And by now everybody has put their olive-oils to their fridges, I guess! ()^

But it's pretty easy to melt your freezer on these cold winter days, take your bedclothes outside for couple of hours to get them cleaner etc.

And some people says that the best weather to do Winter Swimming is right now, when it's really, really cold - without wind of course. It's said too that Winter Swimming cures almost everything, it's good for your health and makes ageing slower, for example. And some says that WS is to certain people a drug - you can get addicted to it and the positive hormonal storm that it makes in your body. ;)

Weather will be warmer by monday or tuesday says the weather forcasts - at least over here. I wish that it means more snow!
