If anyone's been to a gig etc and wants to write about it, they can post it here. Not trying to over ride the Music and TV thread, but say if someone wanted to write a review of an Arctic Monkeys gig or something they could put it in here? If it gets confusing i can ask the mods to take off this thread |

Babyshambles - Down In Albion Well the jury is out on whether Pete Doherty is a modern day pop genius or just a very clever bloke out to make the most of his tabloid fodder status. On first listen to the album, the impression seems to very much suggest that its the latter as it's sounding one big disappointment. There's no doubting that the Libertines were a talented lot. Don't look back was a classic single and their best bits were as good as any band in the past 20 years, but it's not enough to ensure that Doherty can make it on its own. The clever money had Barat down as being the Gary Barlow of the band - whilst he have been the main talent, it was the Lib's very own Robbie Williams who was going to go on to Cobain style hysteria. But the album just feels so...... I don't know. The best bits are very good. The singles kilamangiro and **** forever go down well, and Albion will be the toast of a thousand post pub drinking sessions where everyone is declaring each other to be their besht mates, but the rest disappoints. Pentonville sounds contrived, almost a song put on their to boast of widespread roots but falls far short of when the Clash went reggae. It's not a bad album but its one which does not justify the press that it gets. Don't believe the hype. |
