Apprentice winner quits job

With the new third series of The Apprentice just a week away now, Sir Alan Sugar was dealt another blow when the winner of the first series, Tim Campbell, announced that he was quitting his job working with Surralan. Does this prove that The Apprentice, while great TV, is nothing more than a bit of a sham? Remember, series two winner, Michelle Dewbury, left Amstrad within months. It's hardly become a breeding ground for world-swallowing business people.

Well, according to Tim this isn't the case. He's loved every minute of his time with Sir Alan and he's off to start a male grooming business, and a scheme that plans to give £1m a year to budding entrepreneurs. Nice. And Sir Alan? He says Tim has been a "great asset". The third series starts next Wednesday on BBC1. tvscoop

Fair boss Sugar lacks spice

HE may "fire" people on telly, calling them "lightweights" and "nutters" - but former Apprentice winner Tim Campbell reckons Sir Alan Sugar is just a boring boss at heart.

The 29-year-old - who won the hit BBC series in 2005 - announced yesterday he was leaving his £100,000-a-year role working for the multi-millionaire's Amstrad empire.

Tim said: "There's no mad story there as to why I am leaving. I was just a boring diligent worker and he was just a boring, really good, boss.

"The viewers only see this gruff person shouting at people over the boardroom table.

"But Sir Alan is a very astute businessman and very charismatic.

"I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say he is a pussycat - he is a very hard task master - but he is very fair and direct.
