Young Apprentice BBC1 Monday 9pm - 10pm 1/8. New series. Alan Sugar gives another group of 12 ambitious schoolchildren a chance to kick-start a future career in business. The teenage candidates, selected from a wide pool of applicants, battle it out through a series of challenges spanning eight weeks. They begin by taking part in a boys v girls task in which they must conceptualise a new range of frozen snacks to be sold directly to members of the public. Monday Nov 14 BBC1 9pm They don’t make it easy on those teenagers: first the candidates had to devise new ideas for the baby market; now they have to choose and sell products for the over-50s. And the trip away from their comfort zone results, as the producers obviously hoped, in quotes like: “Old people do just want to dash their money, because they don’t see the point in saving any more.” (Thanks, Gbemi.) With these and other insights, the youngsters attempt to flog gizmos at a 50-plus retail fair. You won’t be surprised to hear that Harry M throws his weight around, Lewis burbles for Britain, James is shamblingly funny and Zara remains ice-cool. 4/8. The nine remaining candidates are challenged to select two products they think will appeal to their grandparents' generation. After one team falls out over which item to choose, problems intensify when both groups come to the same decision. The contestants must try to sell as much as they can at a major exhibition, before learning which of them will receive their marching orders in the boardroom. |
