Former Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry has revealed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer.

Dewberry, 34, who won the second series of the BBC show in 2006, told Twitter followers that she was told she had cancer following a biopsy.

"Biopsy results received. Turns out that what I thought was a persistent pimple on my face is actually skin cancer," she wrote.

"Thx for your messages guys. I'm gonna be just fine. Op booked in to cut it out. Just wanted to share, to encourage others to get checked too."

The former supermarket checkout girl, who left school with only two GCSEs, beat rival Ruth Badger to win the second series of The Apprentice.

Dewberry, who was running her own telecoms business by the age of 24, worked for Sir Alan Sugar for 11 months, taking a £100,000-a-year job as head of Xenon Green.

Apprentice star Michelle Dewberry's cancer battle:

Doctors made me suffer six month nightmare

The growth on her nose had originally been misdiagnosed by a nurse at an NHS walk-in centre and her local GP, both in South London. They dismissed it as a harmless pimple.

But when she met a specialist at a Christmas party he told her it looked serious and she pushed for a third opinion with a biopsy.

Less than a fortnight later she was admitted for emergency surgery to remove the tumour – leaving her with a centimetre-deep crater on the left side of her nose.

The surgery left her in agony and she feared being left disfigured.
