RUSSELL Brand has been carpeted by cops for making a hoax call to them — during a live stage show.
The comic, 31, rang officers to say he had information on a theft he had read about in a local paper.
Russ was halfway through his act when he dialled a number and falsely told a stunned officer his name was Dave Seymour.
The Channel 4 presenter said he could help them solve the mystery of a £50,000 statue stolen from a park after reading about a plea for witnesses. Ladies man Russell even piped the conversation to the stunned sell-out crowd via a loudspeaker.
When the policeman asked why so many people were laughing in the background, cheeky Russ replied: “I’ve got the telly on. I’m watching an episode of The Bill.”
Russell — who was performing at the Assembly Halls Theatre in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on Sunday night — then abruptly put down the phone.
